Throughput of Russian seaports review in the 2017 year

Throughput of Russian seaports review in Jan-Aug 20172017 year-end in Russian seaports handled 786.97 mln t of cargo (+9%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 372.94 mln t (+11.1%) including:
154.4 mln t of coal (+13.4%);
48.2 mln t of containerized cargo (+13%);
47.8 mln t of grain (+34.7%);
28.2 mln t of ferrous metal (-0.1%);
17.6 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+9.2%);
3.1 mln t refrigerated cargo (-0.3%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 7.2% to 414.03 mln t including:
253.2 mln t of crude oil (+11.1%);
141.5 mln t of oil products (+0.5%);
14.7 mln t of liquefied gas (+8.8%).

Export totaled cargo handled 606.5 mln t (+6.9%), imports – 36.1 mln t (+14.2%), transit – 58.2 mln t (+14%), short-sea shipping – 86 mln t (+19.5%).
Total container turnover of Russian seaports for 2017 year increased by 15.5% year-on-year to 4.62 mln TEU, including imports — 1.95 mln TEU (+16.8%); export – 1.92 mln TEU (+17.5%); short-sea traffic — 683.76 thou TEU (+6.5%), transit — 66.61 thou TEU (+22.5%).
In reporting period refrigerated containers handled 450.28 thou TEU of which import – 345.73 thou TEU, short-sea shipping – 59.4 thou TEU, export – 44.89 thou TEU.

Review of basin specification in the 2017 year:

In reporting period the operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 74.2 mln t of cargo (+49.1%, year-on-year) including 45.08 mln t of liquid bilk cargo (+ 94.5 times) and 29.12 mln t of dry cargo (+9.5%). Throughput of port of Murmansk amounted 51.7 mln t (+54.4%), Varandei – 8.2 mln t (+3.4%), Sabetta – 7.99 mln t (up in 2.8 times), Arkhangelsk – 2.4 mln t (-8%), Dudinka – 1.24 mln t (+3.7%), Kandalaksha – 1.63 mln t (up in 2 times).
Container turnover in ports of Arctic Basin down 1.6% to 150.5 thou TEU, from which is the main part it’s a short-sea shipping – 146.8 thou TEU (+1.8%), loading export – 787 TEU (+26.5%), empty export – 474 TEU (-85.9%), import – 2.4 thou TEU (-49.5%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 247.49 mln t (+4.6%) including 105.06 mln t of dry cargo (+17.1%) and 142.43 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-3%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 103.3 mln t (+10.6%), Primorsk – 57.6 mln t (-10.6%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 53.6 mln t (+10.3%), Vysotsk – 17.5 mln t (+2.6%).
The container turnover in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 10.6% to 2.23 mln TEU, including loaded export – 740.27 thou TEU (+8%), empty export – 362.23 thou TEU (+20.1%), import – 1.13 mln TEU (+9.6%). Container turnover of Big Port St. Petersburg up 9.9% to 1.92 mln TEU, port of Ust-Luga – 75.26 thou TEU (-10.3%), Kaliningrad – 239.2 thou TEU (+26.4%).

By the end of 2017 year the seaports of Azov – Black Sea Basin handled 269.54 mln t (+10.4%) including 118.43 mln t of dry cargo (+12.4%) and 151.11 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+8.9%). Increased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Novorossiysk to 147.4 mln t (+12.2%), Tuapse – 26.6 mln t (+5.6%), Kavkaz – 35.3 mln t (+6.3%), Taman – 14.9 mln t (+11.1%), Rostov-on-Don – 14.9 mln t (+15.6%), Azov – 7.92 mln t (+19.7%), Taganrog – 3.06 mln (+29.7%), Eisk – 4.64 mln t (+7.5%), Gelendzhik – 0.2 mln (+43.3%). Decreased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Crimea to 11.43 mln t (-0.6%), Kerch – 9.5 mln t (-1%).
Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 752.53 thou TEU (+19.7%), including loading export – 213.41 thou TEU (+17.5%), empty export – 162.42 thou TEU (+24.1%), import – 361.33 thou TEU (+19.6%), short-sea shipping – 13.96 thou TEU (+2.8%), transit – 1.4 thou TEU (up to 4 times). Container turnover in port of Novorossiysk up to 736.59 thou TEU (+20.1%), Azov – 8.11 thou TEU (+27%), Sevastopol – 6.52 thou TEU (-4%), Kavkaz – 1.25 thou TEU, Rostov-on-Don – 0.05 thou TEU (-95.7%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 3.98 mln t of cargo (-34.1%) including 2.88 mln t of dry cargo (-9.2%) and 1.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-61.6%). Throughput of port of Makhachkala down 57.3% to 1.4 mln t, Astrakhan to 2.3 mln t (-10.3%), Olya port – 268 thou t (+42.7%).
Container turnover of the Caspian Basin down 1.9% to 2.4 thou TEU, including loading export – 850 TEU (+27.4%), empty export – 93 TEU (-64.6%), import – 1060 TEU (-7.8%), short-sea shipping – 368 TEU (+8.9%). Main proportion from all container turnover of Caspian Basin handling in port of Astrakhan, which is amounted 2.36 thou TEU (-1% y-o-y).

The ports of Far East Basin up to 191.76 mln t (+3.3%) including 117.46 mln t of dry cargoes (+5.8%) and 74.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-0.3%). Port Vostochny handled 69.2 mln t (+1.1%), Vanino – 29.2 mln t (-3.2%), Nakhodka – 24.2 mln t (+4.2%), Prigorodnoye – 17.4 mln t (+6.1%), Vladivostok – 16.9 mln t (+18.2%), De-Castri – 10.8 mln t (-6.7%), Posiet – 7.7 mln t (-5.7%).
The Far East Basin ports container throughput in 2017 year increased by 23.9% to 1.48 mln TEU, including export – 443.87 (+33.4%) (loading export – 219.25 thou TEU (+23.7%), empty export – 224.61 thou TEU (44.4%)), import – 451.94 thou TEU (+38.1%), transit – 65.21 thou TEU (+20.7%), short-sea shipping – 522.59 thou TEU (+8.1%). Container turnover by ports: Vladivostok – 7838.76 thou TEU (+30.5%), Vostochny – 370.79 thou TEU (+23.1%), Korsakov – 124.32 thou TEU (+8.7%), Petropavlovsk – Camchatsky – 80 thou TEU (+5.7%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
