Throughput of Russian seaports review in Jan-Aug 2017In January – November 2017, Russian seaports handled 716.7 mln t of cargo (+9%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 339.3 mln t (+10.6%) including:
141.1 mln t of coal (+13.3%);
43.8 mln t of containerized cargo (+12.6%);
43 mln t of grain (+33.4%);
25.5 mln t of ferrous metal (-1.6%);
15.9 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+9.7%);
2.8 mln t refrigerated cargo (+0.5%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 7.5% to 377.4 mln t including:
232 mln t of crude oil (+11.8%);
128.1 mln t of oil products (+0.3%);
13 mln t of liquefied gas (+6.4%).

Export totaled cargo handled 552.2 mln t (+6.7%), imports – 32.7 mln t (+13.6%), transit – 52.8 mln t (+14.4%), short-sea shipping – 78.8 mln t (+20.6%).

Total container turnover of Russian seaports for 11 month of 2017 increased by 15.6% year-on-year to 4.2 mln TEU, including imports — 1.77 mln TEU (+17.2%), loading export – 1.1 mln TEU (+11.2%), empty export – 678.7 thou TEU (+28.4), short-sea traffic — 620.39 thou TEU (+6.5%), transit — 60.53 thou TEU (+22.9%).
In reporting period refrigerated containers handled 397.52 thou TEU of which import – 302.64 thou TEU, short-sea shipping – 544.3 thou TEU, export – 40.2 thou TEU, transit – 48.03 thou TEU.

Review of basin specification from January to November 2017:

In reporting period the operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 67.2 mln t of cargo (+50.6%, year-on-year) including 40.5 mln t of liquid bilk cargo (+ 98.5 times) and 26.7 mln t of dry cargo (+10.1%). Throughput of port of Murmansk amounted 47.2 mln t (+58.4%), Varandei – 7.6 mln t (+5%), Sabetta – 6.61 mln t (up in 2.7 times), Arkhangelsk – 2.16 mln t (-12.2%), Dudinka – 1.11 mln t (+2.6%), Kandalaksha – 1.46 mln t (up in 2.1 times).
Container turnover in ports of Arctic Basin up 2.9% to 135.94 thou TEU, from which is the main part it’s a short-sea shipping – 132.41 thou TEU (+0.8%), loading export – 761 TEU (+32.8%), empty export – 474 TEU (-85.9%), import – 2.29 thou TEU (-52.1%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 225.6 mln t (+4.7%) including 95.1 mln t of dry cargo (+16.9%) and 130.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-2.7%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 93.9 mln t (+10.4%), Primorsk – 53.1 mln t (-9.9%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 48.6 mln t (+10.6%), Vysotsk – 15.9 mln t (+2.3%).
The container turnover in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 10.8% to 2.04 mln TEU, including loaded export – 674.96 thou TEU (+7.1%), empty export – 334.69 thou TEU (+23.4%), import – 1.03 mln TEU (+9.6%). Container turnover of Big Port St. Petersburg up 10% to 1.75 mln TEU, port of Ust-Luga – 69.46 thou TEU (-9.2%), Kaliningrad – 223.23 thou TEU (+30.1%).

In reporting period the seaports of Azov – Black Sea Basin including port of Crimea and stevedores of Sevastopol handled 244.85 mln t (+9.9%) including 107.34 mln t of dry cargo (+11%) and 137.51 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+9.1%). Increased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Novorossiysk to 133.89 mln t (+11.8%), Tuapse – 24.27 mln t (+5.8%), Kavkaz – 32.5 mln t (+5.8%), Taman – 13.7 mln t (+14.3%), Rostov-on-Don – 13.38 mln t (+11.4%), Azov – 7.05 mln t (+16.6%), Taganrog – 2.7 mln (+26.8%), Eisk – 4.19 mln t (+7%), Gelendzhik – 0.16 mln (+47.6%). Decreased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Crimea – 10.4 mln t (-1.5%), Kerch – 8.67 mln t (-1.4%).
Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 665.97 thou TEU (+18.8%), including loading export – 191.6 thou TEU (+15.1%), empty export – 139.9 thou TEU (+23%), import – 320.3 thou TEU (+19.6%), short-sea shipping – 12.8 thou TEU (+3.7%), transit – 1.4 thou TEU (up to 4.5 times). Container turnover in port of Novorossiysk up to 651.57 thou TEU (+19.1%), Azov – 7.21 thou TEU (+25.9%), Sevastopol – 6.07 thou TEU (-0.9%), Kavkaz – 1.07 thou TEU, Rostov-on-Don – 0.05 thou TEU (-95.7%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 3.5 mln t of cargo (-35.4%) including 2.5 mln t of dry cargo (-9.5%) and 0.983 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-63%). Throughput of port of Makhachkala down 58.9% to 1.2 mln t, Astrakhan to 2 mln t (-9.4%), Olya port – 224 thou t (+23.5%).
Container turnover of the Caspian Basin up 2.8% to 2.08 thou TEU, including loading export – 744 TEU (+22.6%), empty export – 93 TEU (-57.7%), import – 899 TEU (+2.2%), short-sea shipping – 343 TEU (+8.9%). Main proportion from all container turnover of Caspian Basin handling in port of Astrakhan, which is amounted 2.07, thou TEU (+3.6% y-o-y).

The ports of Far East Basin up to 175.5 mln t (+3.6%) including 107.6 mln t of dry cargoes (+5.9%) and 67.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+0.2%). Port Vostochny handled 63.4 mln t (+1.3%), Vanino – 26.6 mln t (-3.3%), Nakhodka – 22.1 mln t (+4%), Prigorodnoye – 15.7 mln t (+5.8%), Vladivostok – 15.5 mln t (+18.2%), De-Castri – 9.9 mln t (-5.9%), Posiet – 7.2 mln t (-3.5%).
The Far East Basin ports container throughput in reporting period increased by 24.6% to 1.35 mln TEU, including loading export – 199.5 thou TEU (+23.1%), empty export – 203.6 thou TEU (45.3%), import – 415.4 thou TEU (+40.4%), transit – 59.2 thou TEU (+20.9%), short-sea shipping – 477.8 thou TEU (+8.3%). C0ntainer turnover by ports: Vladivostok – 769.07 thou TEU (+32.5%), Vostochny – 333.37 thou TEU (+24.6%), Korsakov – 113.34 thou TEU (+7.9%), Petropavlovsk – Camchatsky – 73.56 thou TEU (+8%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
