Throughput of Russian seaports review in I quarter 2017

Throughput of Russian seaports up 2.6% to 437.4 mln t in 8M’15In January – March 2017, Russian seaports handled 183.3 mln t of cargo (+9.5%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 80.1 mln t (+9.3%) including:
33.8 mln t of coal (+15.8%),
11 mln t of containerized cargo (+10.6%),
7.2 mln t of ferrous metal (+3.3%),
8.2 mln t of grain (+14%),
4.1 mln t of chemical fertilizers (+4.3%),
0.7 mln t refer cargo (+6.8%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargoes increased by 9.7% to 103.2 mln t including
61.4 mln t of crude oil (+10.3%),
36.8 mln t of oil products (+7.9%),
3.8 mln t of liquefied gas (+15.2%).

Transshipment of export cargo amounted 114.7 mln t (+6.7%), import – 7.9 mln t (+9.1%), transit – 13.8 mln t (+7.8%), cabotage – 16.9 mln t (+44.2%).

Total container throughput of Russian seaports in January-March of 2017 increased by 11.8% year-on-year to 1.07 mln TEU, including import — 458.81 thou TEU (+12.4%), export 456.35 thou TEU (+12.3%), transit — 10.38 thou TEU (-16.2%), cabotage — 145.42 thou TEU (+11.1%).

Basin specification:

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 15.8 mln t of cargo (up 1.6 times, year-on-year) including 5.8 mln t of dry cargo (-3.1%) and 10 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2.5 times). The port of Murmansk handled 11.4 mln t (up 1.7 times), Varandei – 2.2 mln t (+13.7%), Arkhangelsk – 0.5 mln t (-39.3%). Container throughput of ports of Arctic Basin in reporting period down 8.4% to 33.08 thou TEU, including laden export – 83 TEU (-66.4%), import – 327 TEU (-71.2%), coasting – 32.7 thou TEU (-5.4%).
Container turnover in port of Murmansk in January – March 2017 amounted 11.7 thou TEU (-2.6%), Dudinka – 12.5 thou TEU (-18.8%), Arkhangelsk – 8.8 thou TEU (+2.8%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 61.5 mln t (+7.9%) including 23.2 mln t of dry cargo (+14.2%) and 38.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+4.4%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 24.4 mln t (+9.1%), Primorsk – 16.5 mln t (+6.4%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 12.6 mln t (+5.5%), Vysotsk – 4.7 mln t (+19.9%), Kaliningrad – 3.14 mln t (+1), Viborg – 0.251 mln t (+9%).
The container turnover in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 5.2% to 531.5 thou TEU, including laden export – 177 thou TEU (+6.3%), empty export – 80.6 thou TEU (-2%), import – 273.9 thou TEU (+6.9%), cabotage – 8 TEU (-60%). Container throughput of Big Port St. Petersburg up 5.3% to 460.5 thou TEU, port of Ust-Luga – 20.6 thou TEU (+0.5%), Kaliningrad – 50.5 thou TEU (+6.9%).

Throughput of cargoes in port of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 59.1 mln t (+6.6%) including 23.5 mln t of dry cargo (+9.3%) and 35.6 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+4.9%). Increased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Novorossiysk – 35.3 mln t (+2.2%), Tuapse – 6.7 mln t (+11.6%), Kavkaz – 4.7 mln t (+13.3%), Taman – 3.9 mln t (+31.2%), Rostov-on-Don – 2.7 mln t (+16.1%), Kerch – 2.1 mln t (+28.4%), Azov – 1.36 mln t (+0.4%).
Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 181.4 thou TEU (+9.3%), including laden export – 48.9 thou TEU (+10.3%), empty export – 41.4 thou TEU (+10.1%), import – 88.5 thou TEU (+8.8%), transit – 142 TEU (+91.9%), cabotage – 2.7 thou TEU (-5%). Container throughput of port of Novorossiysk amounted 178.3 thou TEU (+9.8%), Azof – 1.7 thou TEU (+37.5%), Sevastopol port – 1.4 thou TEU (+2.5%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 0.9 mln t of cargoes (-47.8) including 0.6 mln t dry cargoes (-28%) and 0.26 mln t of liquid bulk cargoes (-69.6%). Throughput of port of Makhachkala down 3.7 times to 0.261 mln t, Astrakhan to 0.6 mln t (-20.8%), Olya port – 46.8 thou t (-4.5%).
Container throughput of the Caspian Basin in I quarter 2017 amounted 739 TEU (+16%), including laden export – 283 TEU (up 2 times), empty export – 36 TEU (-77.9%), import – 296 TEU (+28.7%), cabotage – 124 TEU (+14.8%). The Astrakhan ports container throughput increased by 18.6% to 739 TEU.

The ports of Far East Basin amounted 45.9 mln t (+6.4%) including 26.9 mln t of dry cargoes (+9.7%) and 19 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.1%). Port Vostochny handled 16.9 mln t (+5.6%), Vanino – 7.1 mln t (+0.8%), Nakhodka – 6 mln t (+4.3%), Prigorodnoye – 4.7 mln t (+15.9%), Vladivostok – 3.8 mln t (+20.3%), De-Castri – 3 mln t (-1.8%), Posiet – 2 mln t (-6.2%).
The Far East Basin ports container throughput increased by 29.8% to 324.19 thou TEU, including laden export – 58.1 thou TEU (+48.7%), empty export – 50.1 thou TEU (+39.8%), import – 95.8 thou TEU (+38.6%), transit – 10.2 thou TEU (-16.9%), cabotage – 109.9 thou TEU (+17.8%). Container turnover of port of Vladivostok in reporting period amounted 172.1 thou TEU (+31.3%), Port Vostochny – 82.4 thou TEU (+20.2%), Korsakov port – 29 thou TEU (+21.6%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
