Review of performance reporting and indicators of Russian seaports in Q1 2018

In January-March 2018 in Russian seaports handled 189.7 mln t of cargo (+3.4%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

35.5 mln t of coal (+4.6%);
12.5 mln t of containerized cargo (+12.5%);
12.3 mln t of grain (up in 1.5 times);
7.9 mln t of ferrous metal (+10.9%);
4.3 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+5.3%);
1.6 mln t refrigerated cargo (-7.2%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo decreased by 1.6% to 101.5 mln t including:
59 mln t of crude oil (-5%);
35.8 mln t of oil products (-0.8%);
5.3 mln t of liquefied gas (+41.5%).

In 3 month 2018 total container turnover of Russian seaports increased by 12.6% year-on-year to 1.2 mln TEU, including imports — 527.1 thou TEU (+14.6%); loading export – 310.4 thou TEU (+12.2%), empty export – 191.2 thou TEU (+14.1%); cabotage — 156.5 thou TEU (+7.9%), transit — 13.5 thou TEU (-11.2%); refrigerated containers – 137.2 thou TEU (+20.3%).

Specification in basin in period January-March 2018:

export and import on own railway servisesThe operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 19.1 mln t of cargo (+18.8%, year-on-year) including 12.33 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+ 23.6%) and 6.73 mln t of dry cargo (+10.8%). Throughput of port of Murmansk amounted 12.8 mln t (+13.2%), Varandei – 1.8 mln t (-18.7%), Sabetta – 3.1 mln t (up in 2.2 times), Arkhangelsk – 0.7 mln t (+30.5%).
Container turnover in ports of Arctic Basin up on 6% to 35.1 thou TEU, from which is the main part it is a cabotage – 34.7 thou TEU (+6.3%), export – 167 TEU (up in 2 times), import – 158 TEU (-51.7%). Container turnover on Ports: Dudinka – 16.5 thou TEU (+31.3%); Murmansk – 10.9 thou TEU (-6.7%), Arkhangelsk – 7.7 thou TEU (-13.2%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 58.7 mln t (-4.7%) including 24.94 mln t of dry cargo (+7.5%) and 33.68 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-12.1%). Throughput on Ports: Big Port St. Petersburg – 13.8 mln t (+9.7%), Ust-Luga – 24.2 mln t (-0.5%), Primorsk – 12.2 mln t (-26%), Vysotsk – 4.5 mln t (-3%), Kaliningrad – 3.6 mln t (+13), Vyborg – 0.3 mln t (+12%).
The container turnover in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 7.8% to 577.6 thou TEU, including loading export – 199.8 thou TEU (+12.9%), empty export – 81.4 thou TEU (0.9%), import – 296.4 thou TEU (+6.6%). Container turnover on Ports: Big Port of St. Petersburg – 503.8 thou TEU (+8.3%), port of Ust-Luga – 21.6 thou TEU (+5.2%), Kaliningrad – 52.2 thou TEU (+4.9%).

The operators of seaports of Azov – Black Sea Basin handled 64.3 mln t (+8.7%) including 28.6 mln t of dry cargo (+17%) and 36.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+3.3%). Throughput on Ports: port of Novorossiysk – 38.7 mln t (+9.7%), Tuapse – 6.8 mln t (+1.7%), Rostov-on-Don – 3.4 mln t (+26.6%), Azov – 2.2 mln t (+58%).
Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 227.8 thou TEU (+25.6%), including export – 109.8 thou TEU (+22%), import – 114.5 thou TEU (+29.3%), cabotage – 3.3 thou TEU (+20.8%), transit – 187 TEU (+31.7%). Container turnover on Ports: Novorossiysk – 113.6 thou TEU (+26.4%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 1.33 mln t of cargo (+42.9%) including 786.9 thou t of dry cargo (+17.2%) and 539.2 thou t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2.2 times). Throughput of port of Makhachkala up in 2.6 times to 667.2 thou t, Astrakhan – 572.8 thou t (-7.6%), Olya port – 86.2 thou t (+84.2%).
Container turnover of the Caspian Basin down 11.8% to 652 TEU, including export – 263 TEU (-17.5%), import –281 TEU (-5.1%), cabotage –108 TEU (-12.9%).

Throughput in ports of Far East Basin up to 46.3 mln t (+1.2%) including 28.1 mln t of dry cargoes (+4.9%) and 18.2 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-4.2%). Port Vostochny handled 16.9 mln t (at the level of the previous year), Vanino – 7.2 mln t (+1.6%), Nakhodka – 5.9 mln t (-0.3%).
The Far East Basin ports container turnover amounted 357.6 thou TEU (+14%), including: export – 110 thou TEU (+14.4%), import – 115.8 thou TEU (+25%), transit – 13.3 thou TEU (-11.6%), cabotage – 118.4 thou TEU (+8%). Container turnover on Ports: Vladivostok – 132.2 thou TEU (+14%), Vostochny – 99.6 thou TEU (+20.9%), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – 18.8 thou TEU (+17.7%), Kholmsk – 1.2 thou TEU (+44.3%), Zarubino – 113 TEU (-49.1%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
