The volume of cargo carried along the Northern Sea Route in January-November 2015 increased 1.6 times, year-on-year, to 5,152,000 t, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Yury Kostin, Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot (Federal Marine and River Transport Agency), as saying at the V International Forum “Arctic: Today And The Future”. According to him, 697 permits for passing NSR have been granted by December 4, 2015, including 124 permits for vessels flying the flags of foreign countries.
Yury Kostin also said that transit transportation along the Northern Sea Route has decreased from 1.176 mln t in 2013 and 274,000 t in 2014 to 39,000 t in 2015.
8 icebreakers including diesel-electric ones provide icebreaking services at the Northern Sea Route. In winter 2015, diesel-electric icebreaker Tor operated at port Sabetta, icebreaker Saint-Petersburg was deployed from spring.
