Throughput of Russian seaports review in Jan-July 2017

Russian seaports' eight-month throughput rises 5.7% to 468.5 million tonnesIn January – July 2017, Russian seaports handled 449 mln t of cargo (+10.5%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 205 mln t (+9.8%) including:
89.3 mln t of coal (+16%),
27.5 mln t of containerized cargo (+13.4%),
19.4 mln t of grain (+25.1%),
16.6 mln t of ferrous metal (-1.3%),
9.8 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+5.3%),
1.6 mln t refrigerated cargo (-3.5%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 11.1% to 244 mln t including:
149.6 mln t of crude oil (+15%),
83.5 mln t of oil products (+4.2%),
8.2 mln t of liquefied gas (+11.7%).

Export totaled 348.1 mln t (+7.7%), imports – 20.6 mln t (+15.9%), transit – 33.5 mln t (+14.9%), short-sea shipping – 46.6 mln t (+29.8%).

Total container turnover of Russian seaports in January-July of 2017 increased by 16% year-on-year to 2.64 mln TEU, including imports — 1.13 mln TEU (+17.5%), export – 1.1 mln TEU (+15%), transit — 37 thou TEU (+32.3%), short-sea traffic — 373 thou TEU (+10.3%).

Basin specification:

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 42.2 mln t of cargo (+65.7%, year-on-year) including 26.3 mln t of liquid bilk cargo (up in 1.5 times) and 15.9 mln t of dry cargo (+6.5%). The port of Murmansk handled 30.4 mln t (+78.9%), Varandei – 5.1 mln t (+7.6%), Sabetta – 3.6 mln t.
Container turnover in ports of Arctic Basin in reporting period up 3.3% to 78.95 thou TEU, including short-sea shipping – 77.93 thou TEU (+7.7%), reefer cpntainer – 2.66 thou TEU. Container turnover in port of Murmansk in reporting period amounted 24.37 thou TEU (+0.3%), Dudinka – 30.19 thou TEU (+1.3%), Arkhangelsk – 21.19 thou TEU (+3.8%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin for 7 month handled 143.9 mln t (+6%) including 58.6 mln t of dry cargo (+15.5%) and 85.2 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+0.3%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 58.9 mln t (+11.5%), Primorsk – 35.6 mln t (-5.3%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 30.3 mln t (+8.8%), Vysotsk – 10.5 mln t (+8.7%), Kaliningrad – 7.68 mln t (+10%), Viborg – 0.735 mln t (+6%).
The container turnover in Jan-Jul 2017 in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 10.3% to 1.29 mln TEU, including export – 634.57 thou TEU (+10.3%), import – 661.33 thou TEU (+10.2%). Reefer container handled 149.06 thou TEU which of in import direction amounted 133.11 thou TEU, export – 15.95 thou TEU. Container turnover of Big Port St. Petersburg up 7.7% to 1.11 mln TEU, port of Ust-Luga – 42.8 thou TEU (-5%), Kaliningrad – 139.03 thou TEU (+30.9%).

For Jan-Jul of 2017 seaports of Azov – Black Sea Basin handled 147.9 mln t (+9.5) including 60.2 mln t of dry cargo (+8%) and 87.6 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+10.6%). Increased the volume of cargo handling operators of port of Novorossiysk to 84.4 mln t (+10.8%), Tuapse – 15.5 mln t (+8.1%), Kavkaz – 17 mln t (+7.1%), Taman – 8.7 mln t (+25.1%), Rostov-on-Don – 7.3 mln t (+4.3%), Kerch – 5.1 mln t (-1.6%), Azov – 4.89 mln t (+1.5%).
Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 450.64 thou TEU (+17.3%), including export – 226.99 thou TEU (+18.2%), import – 215.33 thou TEU (+16.6%), transit – 540 TEU (up to 3.3 times), short-sea shipping – 7.7 thou TEU (+6.5%). The reefer container handled 74.83 thou TEU which of in import direction – 73.79 thou TEU. In export – 0.99 thou TEU. Container turnover in port of Novorossiysk up to 442.09 thou TEU (+17.7%), Azov – 4.25 thou TEU (+20.9%), Sevastopol – 3.71 thou TEU (+3.9%), Kavkaz – 0.54 thou TEU, Rostov-on-Don – 0.05 thou TEU (-93.2%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 2 mln t of cargo (-38.1) including 1.4 mln t of dry cargo (-8.1%) and 0.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-66.4%). Throughput of port of Makhachkala down 64% to 0.7 mln t, Astrakhan to 1.2 mln t (-5%), Olya port – 110 thou t (+16.7%).
Container turnover of the Caspian Basin in January – July 2017 amounted 1.45 thou TEU (+18.4%), including export – 664 TEU (+21.8), import – 552 TEU (+12.4%), short-sea shipping – 235 TEU (+23.7%).
The ports of Far East Basin up to 112.9 mln t (+5.8%) including 68.7 mln t of dry cargoes (+8.2%) and 44.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.2%). Port Vostochny handled 40.8 mln t (+4.3%), Vanino – 17.5 mln t (-0.9%), Nakhodka – 14.4 mln t (+6.1%), Prigorodnoye – 9.9 mln t (+9.6%), Vladivostok – 9.4 mln t (+17.3%), De-Castri – 7.2 mln t (-1.7%), Posiet – 4.8 mln t (+1.1%).

The Far East Basin ports container throughput in reporting period increased by 27.1% to 815.22 thou TEU, including export – 241.5 thou TEU (+31.1%), import – 250.1 thou TEU (+45%), transit – 36.5 thou TEU (+31.1%), short-sea shipping – 286.9 thou TEU.

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
