Statistics of Russian seaports in the first half of 2016

Statistics of Russian seaports in the first half of 2016 In January-June 2016, Russian seaports handled 344.6 mln t of cargo (+6%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 156.8 mln t (+10.7%) including:

64.7 mln t of coal (+11.9%),

20.8 mln t of containerized cargo (+4.6%),

14.7 mln t of ferrous metal (+7.5%),

12.1 mln t of grain (+29.4%),

10.8 mln t of cargo carried by ferries  (+18.3%),

8.5 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+9.9%),

4.6 mln t of ore (up 1.6 times),

2.8 mln t of timber (+4.4%),

1.9 mln t of non-ferrous metal (+4.4%),

1.5 mln t of reefer cargo (+2.3%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 2.3% to 187.8 mln t including

111.2 mln t of crude oil (+9.4%),

68.3 mln t of oil products (-7.3%)

6.5 mln t of liquefied gas (+1.4%).

Transshipment of export cargo totaled 276.6 mln t (+6%), import – 15.4 mln t (-6.3%), transit – 24.5 mln t (+0.7%), coastal trade cargo – 28.1 mln t (+19.2%).

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 21.3 mln t of cargo (+24.9%, year-on-year) including 12.7 mln t of dry cargo (+10.9%) and 8.6 mln t of liquid bulk cargo ((up 1.5 times). The port of Murmansk handled 14.2 mln t (+34%), Varandei – 4.0 mln t (+23%). Also in the reporting period increased transshipment of containers to 65,18 thou TEU which is 3.3% more than in the same period in 2015, the proportion of the total container turnover of the Russian Federation is 3,3%.

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 116.5 mln t (+2%) including 43.3 mln t of dry cargo (+1.1%) and 73.2 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.5%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 44.9 mln t (+5.3%), Primorsk – 32.5 mln t (+9.1%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 24.2 mln t (-8%), Kaliningrad – 6.1 mln t (-4.9%), Vysotsk – 8,3 mln t (-2,7%). The container throughput in the ports in the Baltic basin increased by 3.2% to 1 mln TEU, what is 51,4% from the total container turnover of the Russian Federation.

Throughput of Azov – Black Sea ports climbed to 113 mln t (+5.3%) including 45.5 mln t of dry cargo (+16.9%) and 67.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-1.2%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 65.6 mln t (+2.9%), Kavkaz – 12.1 mln t (+5.4%), Taman – 5.9 mln t (+11%), Rostov-on-Don – 5.5 mln t (+31.4%), Kerch – 4.2 mln t (+41.1%), Azov – 2.5 mln t (+15.3%), Yeisk – 1.7 mln t (+18.2%), Tuapse – 12.3 mln t (-2%), Temryuk – 1.3 mln t (-4.2%), Taganrog – 0.9 mln t (-26.4%). Container handling in the port of Azov – Black Sea also climbed to 343.05 thou TEU (+3.1%) what is 17.5% from the total container turnover of the Russian Federation.

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 2.9 mln t of cargo (-19.4%) including 1.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-25.9%) and 1.4 mln t of dry cargo (-11.6%). The port of Makhachkala handled 1.6 mln t (-24%), Astrakhan – 1.2 mln t (-11%), Olya – down 31.3%. Container throughput fell by 26.3% to 1.13 thou TEU.

The ports of Far East Basin handled 90.9 mln t (+9.5%) including 53.8 mln t of dry cargo (+15%) and 37.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.3%). Port Vostochny handled 33 mln t (+2.9%), Vanino – 15.2 mln t (+13.9%), Nakhodka – 11.8 mln t (+15.7%), Vladivostok – 6.9 mln t (+13.1%), De-Castri – 6.3 mln t (+23.2%), Posiet –4.1 mln t (+32.1%), Prigorodnoye – 8.1 mln t (+0.8%). Though the container volumes in the ports of far East Basin decreased by 11.4% to 542,12 thou TEU, what is 27.7% from the total container turnover of the Russian Federation.

Total container turnover in Russian seaports in January – June of 2016 decreased by 1.3% year-on-year to 1.96 million TEU.

The rate of decline in container handling in the ports of gradually slowing since the beginning of the year. So, in Jan 2016, the decline was 10.3% to 295,7 thou TEU in the first quarter – 5%, in Jan-May to 2.6% in Jan-Jun to 1.3%.

Export containers amounted to 824,93 thou TEU (-3,2%), including loaded export 531,7 thou TEU (+12.6%), empty – 293, 24 thou TEU (-22,8%);

import — 829,6 thou TEU (+1,5%);

transit — 20.7 thou TEU (-51,8%) of them empty -93,8% loaded -32%;

cabotage — 283,7 thousand TEU (+3.8 per cent) of them empty of -1.5% with +7,4%.

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
