In January-December 2014, container terminal Transiidikeskuse (Estonia, Muuga) handled 257,220 TEUs (+2.2%, year-on-year), the company says. The tonnage of containerized cargo increased by 8.5%. The terminal of general and refrigerated cargo handled 428,183 t of packaged and loose cargo. The concern’s total throughput hit 2,895,419 t (+6.5%, year-on-year). Transiidikeskuse BoD Chairman Erik Laidvee says the results of the last quarter reflect the situation in Russia.
“The volume of cargo flowing to Russia via our terminal tells about the country’s domestic consumption and it is clear that imports decline which, in its turn, has its impact on our economic performance”, he says. Despite the unstable situation in the international trade, Transiidikeskuse invested EUR 6.2 mln in 2014, the statement says. In July, the expansion of the container terminal was completed, Erik Laidvee reminds. Transiidikeskuse AS operates dedicated terminals for container and general cargo in port Muuga.
