Throughput of cargoes and containers of Russian seaports in Jan’17

Throughput of Russian seaports up 3.2% to 553.8 mln t in 10M’15In January 2017, Russian seaports handled 59.6 mln t of cargo (+12.7%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 25 mln t (+14.9%) including:
10.2 mln t of coal (+19.7%),
3.5 mln t of containerized cargo (+16.4%),
2.3 mln t of ferrous metal (+8.6%),
2.5 mln t of grain (+33.6%),
1.4 mln t of chemical fertilizers (+6.8%),
0.4 mln t of timber (+1.1%),
0.3 mln t of ro-ro cargoes (up 1.8 times),
0.3 mln t of scrap-metal (+23.1%),
1.6 mln t of cargo carried by ferries (-0.7%),
0.4 mln t of ore (-40.6%),
0.2 mln of unitized cargoes (-26.8%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargoes increased by 11.2% to 34.7 mln t including
19.9 mln t of crude oil (+9.1%),
13.1 mln t of oil products (+14%),
1.3 mln t of liquefied gas (+7.5%).

Transshipment of export cargoes totaled 47.4 mln t (+10.2%), import – 2.4 mln t (+10.6%), transit – 4.3 mln t (+3.2%), coastal trade cargoes – 5.5 mln t (up 1.6 times).

Total container turnover of Russian seaports in January of 2017 increased by 12.9% year-on-year to 335.38 thou TEU, including total export 141.27 thou TEU (+10.3%), import — 145,61 thou TEU (+18,2%), transit — 3.39 thou TEU (+2.3%), coasting trade cargoes — 45.12 thou TEU (+6 %).

Basin specification:

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 4.1 mln t of cargo (+44.3%, year-on-year) including 1.6 mln t of dry cargo (-12.8%) and 2.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2.5 times). The port of Murmansk handled 2.8 mln t (up 1.5 times), Varandei – 0.7 mln t (+10.4%), Dudinka – 0.1 mln t (+25.1%), Arkhangelsk – 0.1 mln t (down 2.1 times). Container turnover of ports of Arctic Basin in reporting period down 16.7% to 9551 TEU, including laden export – 9 TEU (-43.7%), coasting trade cargoes – 9542 TEU (-14.5%). Container turnover in port of Murmansk in January 2017 amounted 2848 TEU (-42.6%), Dudinka – 3941 TEU (-13.9%), Arkhangelsk – 2758 TEU (+43%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 20.6 mln t (+12.2%) including 7.3 mln t of dry cargo (+18.3%) and 13.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+9.1%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 8.1 mln t (+11.3%), Primorsk – 5.6 mln t (+11.2%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 4.1 mln t (+7.6%), Vysotsk – 1.6 mln t (+32%), Kaliningrad – 1.1 mln t (+7.6%), Viborg – 0.1 mln t (+1.9%). The container turnover in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 9.2% to 167.1 thou TEU, including laden export – 56.1 thou TEU (+13.5%), devoid export – 25.3 thou TEU (-8.6%), import – 85.7 thou TEU (+12.9%). Throughput of container in Big Port St. Petersburg up 11.2% to 144.5 thou TEU, Kaliningrad – 16 thou TEU (+0.8%). Container turnover in port of Ust-Luga decreased by 7.1% to 6.7 thou TEU.

Throughput of cargoes in port of Azov – Black Sea basin climbed to 19.7 mln t (+12.2%) including 7.7 mln t of dry cargo (+21.5%) and 12 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+7%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 11.6 mln t (+5.1%), ports of Tuapse – 2.3 mln t (+4%),Kavkaz – 1.7 mln t (+24.9%), Taman – 1.2 mln t (up 1.7 times), Rostov-on-Don – 0.9 mln t (+36.2%), Kerch – 0.7 mln t (+31.9%), Azov – 0.4 mln t (+13.8%), Yeisk – 0.3 mln t (+28.6%), Temryuk – 0.3 mln t (+44.8%). Container turnover in ports of Azov – Black Sea basin amounted 56.7 thou TEU (+7.8%), including laden export – 15.5 thou TEU (+14.9%), devoid export – 14.1 thou TEU (-6.5%), import – 26.5 thou TEU (+15.4), transit – 54 TEU (up 2.6 times), coasting trade cargoes – 577 TEU (-45.8%). Container turnover in port of Novorossiysk was 55.7 thou TEU (+7.3%), Azof – 679 TEU (up 3.4 times), Sevastopol port – 300 TEU (-37.2%)

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 293 thou t of cargoes (-50.9%) including 219.8 thou t dry cargoes (-23.1%) and 73.3 thou t of liquid bulk cargoes (-76.4%). Throughput of port of Makhachkala decreased by 79.3 % to 3 mln t, Astrakhan to 204 thou t (-17.7%). But Olya port shows a positive trend – 18.8 thou t (up 2.4 times). Container throughput fell by 31.4% to 297 TEU, including laden export – 136 TEU (up 4 times), devoid export – 4 TEU (-95.3%), import – 113 TEU (+48.7%), coasting trade cargoes – 44 TEU (+41.9%). Container turnover of Astrakhan in first month 2017 amounted 297 TEU (+38.1%).

The ports of Far East Basin increased to 14.9 mln t (+10.2%) including 8.2 mln t of dry cargoes (+14.8%) and 6.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+5.1%). Port Vostochny handled 5.6 mln t (+7.4%), Vanino – 2 mln t (+2.3%), Nakhodka – 2 mln t (+13.4%), Prigorodnoye – 1.7 mln t (+11.6%), Vladivostok – 1.2 mln t (+21.1%), De-Castri – 1 mln t (+0.9%), Posiet –0.7 mln t (+11.5%). Container thoughput in the ports of Far East Basin increased by 27.5% to 101.7 thou TEU, including laden export – 15.3 thou TEU (+53.9%), devoid export – 14.9 thou TEU (+20.5%), import – 33.3 thou TEU (+39%), transit – 3.3 thou TEU, coasting trade cargoes – 34.96 thou TEU (+15.4%). Container turnover port of Vladivostok in reporting period amounted 55.6 thou TEU (+28.5%), Port Vostochny – 27.1 thou TEU, Korsakov port – 9.8 thou TEU (+36.9%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
