Total throughput and container volume of Russian seaports in 2016

In 2016, Russian seaports handled 721.9 mln t of cargo (+6.7%, year-on-year), says the press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 5.9% to 386.1 mln t including
228 mln t of crude oil (+12.8%),
140.7 mln t of oil products (-3.7%)
13.6 mln t of liquefied gas (+5.5%).

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 335.8 mln t (+7.5%) including:

136.3 mln t of coal (+10.5%),
42.7 mln t of containerized cargo (+6.5%),
28.2 mln t of ferrous metal (+7.8%),
35.5 mln t of grain (+3.3%),
22.7 mln t of cargo carried by ferries (+3.5%),
8.7 mln t of ore (+ 29.6%),
5.4 mln t of timber (+1.8%),
4.6 mln t of ro-ro cargo (up 1.8 times),
16.2 mln t of chemical fertilizers (+1.1%),
4 mln t of scrap-metal (-5.5%).

Transshipment of export cargo totaled 567.3 mln t (+5.3%), import – 31.7 mln t (-5%), transit – 51 mln t (+5.8%), coastal trade cargo – 71.9 mln t (+27.4%).

The total container cargos in Russian seaports in 2016 increased by 1.4% year-on-year to 3.99 mln TEU, including total export 1.64 mln TEU (-0.6%), import — 1.67 mln TEU (+2,1%), transit — 50 thou TEU (-28.5%), coastal trade cargo — 640 thou TEU (+8.5 %).

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 49.7 mln t of cargo (+40.6%, year-on-year) including 26.6 mln t of dry cargo (+6.6%) and 23.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2.2 times). The port of Murmansk handled 33.4 mln t (up 1.5 times), Varandei – 8 mln t (+21.6%), Dudinka – 1.2 mln t (+1.6%), Arkhangelsk – 2.6 mln t (-31%), Kandalaksha – 0.8 mln t (-3.4%). Arctic Basin ports container volume in 2016 up 10.8% to 150 thou TEU.

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 236.58 mln t (+2.5%) including 89.7 mln t of dry cargo (+2.2%) and 146.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.7%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 93.4 mln t (+6.2%), Primorsk – 64.4 mln t (+8.1%), Big Port St. Petersburg – 48.6 mln t (-5.6%), Vysotsk – 17.1 mln t (-2.2%), Kaliningrad – 11.7 mln t (-7.8%), Viborg – 1.4 mln t (-11.6%). The container cargos transported in ports of Baltic Basin increased by 1.7% to 2.02 mln TEU.

Throughput of Azov – Black Sea ports amounted 244 mln t (+4.8%) including 105.3 mln t of dry cargo (+7.1%) and 138.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+3.1%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 131.4 mln t (+3.4%), Kavkaz – 33.2 mln t (+8.8%), Taman – 13.5 mln t (+9.1%), Rostov-on-Don – 12.9 mln t (+11.4%), Kerch – 9.6 mln t (+22.4%), Yeisk – 4.3 mln t (+10.2%), Temryuk – 2.9 mln t (+14.6%). Decreased throughput in ports of Azov – 6.6 mln t (-6.3%), Taganrog – 2.4 mln t (-19.1%). Throughput of Tuapse port stay at the same level as last yar – 25.2 mln t. The container cargos transported in ports of Azov – Black Sea amounted 628.4 thou TEU (+4%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 6.04 mln t of cargo (-9.6%) including 2.87 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-20.6%) and 3.17 mln t of dry cargo (+3.5%). The port of Makhachkala handled 3.25 mln t (-15.1%), Astrakhan – 2.5 mln t (-1.9%), Olya – down 5.4% to 200 thou t. Caspian Basin ports container volume in 2016 down in 15.1% to 2.42 thou TEU.

Throughput of ports of Far East Basin amounted 185.5 mln t (+8.3%) including 111 mln t of dry cargo (+13%) and 74.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+2.1%). Port Vostochny handled 68.5 mln t (+5.2%), Vanino – 30.2 mln t (+11.6%), Nakhodka – 23.3 mln t (+9.4%), Prigorodnoye – 16.4 mln t (+2.4%), Vladivostok – 14.3 mln t (+11.2%), De-Castri – 11.5 mln t (+10.4%), Posiet –8.2 mln t (+26.6%). Container cargos transhipment in the ports of far East Basin fell by 1.5% to 1.19 mln TEU.

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
