The event was held yesterday and was attended by the chairman of China Shipping Group, Xu Li Rong; the managing director of CSCL, Zhao Hong Zhou; the chairman and CEO of HHI; Choi Kil-seon, Chinese ambassador to Korea and some 150 guests.
The world’s largest containership was given name by the Xu Li Rong’s wife, He Li Jun. Within this month, CSCL Globe will be handed over to its owner. The container vessel will operate on the Asia-Europe trade loop.
The 77,200-bhp electronically controlled main engine, installed on the vessel, enhances fuel efficiency by automatically controlling fuel consumption according to the sea conditions and the speed of the vessel. Compared to a 10,000-TEU vessel, the high efficiency engine will lower the fuel consumption of CSCL Globe by 20%.
Four years ago, HHI built the first in the world 10,000-TEU containerships. Since then, the company has added 82 more.
CSCL Globe (IMO number 9695121 and MMSI 477712400) is 400 m long, its width is 58.6 m. The vessel is registered in Hong Kong and weights 186,000-GT.
